A gleamer of hope is coming the way of all traders in Ariaria International market,Ahiaohuru and the Spare parts market Ovom as Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has announced a total of 150 million to cushion the effects of not been in trade for a long time owing to the ongoing restructuring of the markets with each market to get 50million naira respectively.
Governor Ikpeazu who disclosed this while answering questions on “The Platform”, a Radio participatory programme of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia,BCA noted that the traders have been out of business since the reconstruction started and as such would not be able to fulfill their obligation in the Public Private Partnership deal.
He added that the fund would enable the traders pay part of their requirements in fixing the markets.
Governor Ikpeazu expressed optimism that soon the markets would be ready in phases to enable the traders move in and do business.
“I am with them in this ,100%. Whatever palliative and cushion they need government to provide for them would be provided”, Ikpeazu assured.
Governor Ikpeazu said his administration is currently restructuring the markets simultaneously with the aim of providing a conducive ambience for the traders and their clients.
The Governor who used the forum to give a scorecard of his adminstration’s intervention in SME development, Health, Education, among others noted that the road Infrastructural development drive by the present adminstration is aimed at fast tracking widespread socio economic development as well as ventilate the markets to improve Trade and Commerce.
He noted the state government is poised to create an ecosystem for trade and commerce as well as deepen E-commerce to enable traders sell their articles all over the world from the comfort of their homes adding that the state government has set up ICT Hubs that would drive the E-commerce initiative in various markets across the state.
