Political Elites and the creme de- la -creme of the society, Sunday, gathered as Abia State Governor,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s Son, Engr. Jachimike Victor Ikpeazu wedded his heartthrob Former Miss Chidinma Thelma Onwuenyi at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the colorful ceremony officiated by the Seven Day Adventist Church, include Political Elites, Past and present Governors, Celebrities, and avalanche of who is who in Nigerian Politics.
Governor of Akwa Ibom State,Udom Emmanuel, Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi and his wife, Rachel Umahi, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal,Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, Bauchi State Governor,Bala Mohammed,Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and wife Besty Obaseki as well as wife of the Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa were among dignitaries who witnessed the event.
Others include, the duo of Former Senate Presidents, Anyim Pious Anyim and Adolphus Wabara, Immediate past Governor of Abia State and senator representing Abia Central, Sen. T. A Orji and wife, Mrs Odochi Orji, Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, National Assembly members, Members of the Abia State Executive Council, Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly,Chief Chinedum Orji and members of the state House of Assembly, The Chief judge and members of the judiciary, Top Government officials, Captains of industries, Members of the Peoples Democratic Party,(PDP), Traditional rulers, and members of the clergy.
Speaking at the event, the President Mohammadu Buhari congratulated the couple on their marriage, and prayed God to bless them with love and understanding.
Represented by the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development,Dr. Uche Ogah, President Buhari noted that successful marriages hinges family values and character, adding that when family values are properly enshrined, there would be stability in other activities in the society including peaceful coexistence.
Also speaking, the wife of the President Aisha Buhari, represented by the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Rachael Umahi said the event was a reminder that marriage is a union which ought to be celebrated.
She congratulated the newly wedded couple on their union and assured them that marriage is blissful and an avenue to express love.
In his speech, the father of the groom, and Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said he was overwhelmed by the presence of dignitaries and thanked all who came to celebrate with the family.
He reminded the new couple that the presence of numerous witnesses should inspire them to make a success of their marriage.
The Chairman of the occasion and Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, while blessing the couple, said they will achieve whatever their parents failed to achieve.
Earlier in a sermon, the President, Eastern Union Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pastor Bassey Udoh emphasised on the need for married couples to stick to one another adding that character and integrity were among the foundation of a successful marriage.
Pastor Udoh, who took his text from Ruth 1:16-17 shared practical ways to show love as exemplified by the biblical Ruth, who showed genuine love to the her matrimonial home and urged the couple to show love to each other by adjusting to accommodate one another.
He noted that most marriages have failed because of comparism and advised the newly wedded couple not to compare their spouses with others and prayed God to bless them and grant them fruitfulness and peace.
In a vote of thanks,the groom, Engr. Jachimike Victor Ikpeazu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and other dignitaries who made the event a huge success and promised to make the union an examplary one worthy of emulation.
Highpoints of the ceremony include the signing of the marriage register by the bride and groom as well as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and wife,Dr. Nkechi Ikpeazu.
