ASPHDA Boss, Adindu, Receives Awards, Woos More Devt Partners

The Executive Secretary, Abia State Primary HealthCare Development Agency (ASPHDA), Dr. Chinagozi Adindu, has received prestigious awards for his outstanding performance in the health sector.

National Primary HealthCare Development Agency (NPHCDA) in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO), World Bank among other stakeholders in the health sector, gave the medical expert, the most outstanding Executive Secretary and Chief Executive, Primary HealthCare award in Nigeria.

The ASPHDA boss who subsequently received one of the most coveted Public Servant of the Year 2021 award, expressed happiness that his modest achievements in office has been rewarded and dedicated the awards to the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife, Dr. Nkechi Carol Ikpeazu for the opportunity to serve the state.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia recently, Dr. Adindu stated that he was happy that his contributions towards ensuring the development of primary health sector are yielding fruits.

He added that if the primary health sector functions optimally, the pressure on secondary and tertiary healthcare would reduce drastically, thus; making Universal Health Coverage (UHC) a reality.

The medical practitioner further revealed that the agency with the support of the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has renovated 772 Health Centres across the state, built 65 new health centres, organized 137 capacity building workshops for health workers and attracted equipment worth over N2 Billion in the state.

Other feats he mentioned include: maternal mortality reduction, from 27% to 12.3%, infant mortality, from 32% to 13.7%, adding that Abia ranks 1st and 7th in COVID-19 vaccination in Southeast and Nigeria respectively.

Adindu further noted that Abians have come to appreciate the massive reforms of Gov. Ikpeazu in the health sector, especially in the primary health sector, revealing that Abia now records the highest number of child delivery in the primary health centres across the country.

Adindu who described Dr. Ikpeazu as a health-friendly governer promised to sustain the feats achieved so far in the sector by attracting more development partners, consistent mentoring/training, and the use of bottom-top approach in solving health issues among other strategies.

He urged Abians to continue to support Gov. Ikpeazu administration, adding that the governor is passionate in moving the state to an enviable height.
