Parents urged to allow children take up vocational skills

An Educationist with the Rivers State University, Daminabo Dagogo had advised parents to allow their children take up vocational skills pending when academic activities resumes.

Mr Dagogo who was speaking ahead of July 15th World Skill Day, said the continues closure of schools gives students the opportunity to acquire new skills that will be helpful in the future.

” If you can’t afford bringing a teacher to your house, at least you can send your son to go to that mechanic workshop to start learning mechanic for this six months. And it will also help to shape the child”

The Educationist, Mr Dagogo further said that education generally is life long experience, so for you to fit more into the society, parents should start looking for alternative sources of training their children, apart from the normal school arrangement, pending when the government want to open school.

Mr Dagogo also faulted the level of awareness at the grassroot to encourage vocational education. He said government have been doing so many things, but what they are doing does not really trickle down to the grassroot. Adding that they need to go down, educate and give them reorientation about the vocation. Stating that those that can not afford normal classroom education would send their children to vocational education.

The Educationist also advised the government to decongest the classroom when school resumes. And advised parents not to push, that their children must go to school when they don’t have the ability to send them to school. They can allow them to acquire skills that will better their future.
