QATAR 2022 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER: Rohr Names Squad as Ighala Returns

Nigeria’s head coach, Gernot Rohr has named a 24-man squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde Island.

Al Shabab striker, Odion Ighalo, who announced his retirement from the national team after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he emerged the highest goal scorer, made the list.

Others in the list are goal keepers: Maduka Okoye, Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho.

Defenders: William Troost-Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Jamiliu Collins, Ola Aina, Kevin Akpoguma, Leon Balogun, Kenneth Omeruo, Zaidu Sanusi, Abdullahi Shehu.

Those that will do battle in the middle are Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi.

Those expected to bang in the goals are Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke, Samuel Chukwueze.

Recall that the Super Eagles are top of group C with nine points followed by Cape Verde with seven points, Central African Republic with four points and Liberia is last with three points.

Nigeria will take on the Lone Stars of Liberia on November 13. The reverse fixture saw the Super Eagles defeat Liberia 2-0.

Three days later Nigeria will tale on Cape Verde Island whom they defeated 2-1 in the reverse fixture. Nigeria can qualify before their encounter with the Islanders if they defeat Liberia and Central African Republic defeat Cape Verde.
