The Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has called for collaborative efforts in tackling issues affecting women in the society.
Prof. Iwe stated this when Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Women Association (MOUAUWA) officially launched her uniform in the institution recently, adding that it was time for the association to go beyond mere tinkering to backing her resolve with resources, hence the need to raise the much needed funds.

The university helmsman called on members of MOUAUWA to unite as partners in advancing the development of women.
In her address, the wife of the Governor of Abia State and Mother of the Day, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu made case for sustained efforts in the protection of women against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and all forms of discrimination.
Mrs. Ikpeazu who outlined some of her achievements in women empowerment, highlighted the need to sustain strategies aimed at women’s empowerment to enable women take their place as agents of positive change in the society.

The president of the association and wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Nkechi Nkem Iwe, in her welcome address stressed the need for women to collaborate in finding a lasting end to challenges facing the women folk.
According to Dr. Iwe, the objective of the launching was to raise funds to complete and equip the associations Skills Acquisition Centre building, to enable the training and empowerment of rural women and girls in her catchment area, as well as equip the MOUAUWA Daycare Centre with modern facilities, in line with the associations vision of providing a safe place for young children, whilst their parents are occupied during the day.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, described women empowerment at all level as a sure way to bring lasting development in the society.
The event featured the unveiling of the new MOUAUWA customized uniform and fundraising for the associations projects.
