Women Lawyers Call For Alternative To Court Proceedings

Following the negative impart of the continued closure of courts caused by the judiciary staff strike action, a pressure group, the African Women Lawyers Association of Nigeria (AWLA) has advocated alternative to court proceedings.

The Coordinator of the group, Mrs Cordelia Eke in an interview with our Reporter decried the effects of the continued closure of court as it has taken a great toll on those who relied on judiciary for justice.

Mrs Eke stressed the need for the country to develop alternative to arbitration to guard against stoppage of prison inmates trail arising from closure of courts.
Shee further emphasized that women and children are worst hit by the judiciary staff strike action because of their vulnerability in the society as they are denied access to justice and opportunity to enforce their fundamental right.

Mrs Eke appealed to the parties of consideration of the effect of the strike action for quickly resolution of the crisis.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Rivers State Response team on Violence Against Persons Tombari Duncan says over twenty of their court cases have been left unattended to, as a result of the closure of courts in the state.
He said that the group has over twenty court cases that are supposed to have been heard, but as a result of the closure of court, these cases could not be heard..
