Convener of the New Nigeria Group, and Presidential hopeful, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa , has identified injustice as one of the critical challenges facing the country, saying if given the opportunity to lead, would tackle the hydra headed monster and bring about a new Nigeria were justice, equity and fair play will reign supreme.
Speaking during a Solidarity visit at his country home, Arochukwu LGA of Abia State, by a group known as the All Middle Belt Youth Forum and the International Peace Academy And Crisis Management,Mazi Ohuabunwa decried the high level of gross insecurity, poverty, corruption and poor governance characterized under the APC leadership of President Mohammadu Buhari.
He insisted that the approach to solving the challenges bedevilling Nigeria include tackling the issue of poverty which will largely solve the problem of corruption, and solving the Injustice challenge which will largely deal with insecurity challenges.
He argued that the country is divided because of injustice to virtually every section while the government of the day has done nothing to address the issue.
Ohuabunwa said, “Part of the insecurity problem of Nigeria is caused by injustice whether you believe it or not. When a man feels he is maltreated, he can do anything. The job of leadership is to prove to the citizens that you have not maltreated them but if you have, the responsibility lies on you to remove the maltreatment or marginalization.
“The South East are crying that they are being marginalized, same thing with Niger Delta oil producing communities yet the government of the day has turned deaf ears. What they have done is to increase the marginalization and then they are preaching unity saying that the unity of Nigeria cannot be negotiated.
“They have no idea of what they are talking about because you can’t be preaching one thing and doing another thing. It doesn’t make sense.
“There is a high level of discontentment among the people. Ethnicity and religion, have taken the centre stage. Buhari’s adminstration has aborted the dreams of Nigeria’s founding fathers in 1960. Those who are running this country are bereft of ideas and we have waited for many years without the desired change.
“We believe that this country can be fully united and reintegrated by a leadership that allows justice, equity and fair play to reign. Every child born in this country should have equal chance with every other child to achieve his or her full potentials without discrimination as to his state of birth, ethnicity and religion”.
According to Ohuabunwa, his primary vision is to secure Nigeria by reinventing the county’s security agencies, remove injustice, revamp the economy and create full employment opportunities for the youths as well as take the country from a third world to a first world country.
In his address, National Leader of the All Middle Belt Youth Forum, Comrade Aluh Odeh said their visit was to showcase political solidarity with Mazi Ohuabunwa on his vision to become the next elected president of Nigeria adding that he has all it takes to bell Nigeria from the present day socio-economic backwardness.
While calling for support for Ohuabunwa’s Presidential quest come 2023, Comrade Odeh urged politicians to respect the zoning formula that had since the return of the Fourth Republic become a part of the ingredients of democracy in Nigeria.
“It is only by zoning that the Igbo man can become the President of Nigeria and the same is applicable to Middle Belt region. If zoning has worked and brought presidency to other political zones, why not the Igbo’s. What is good for the goose is good for the gander”, he said.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, International Peace Academy and Crisis Management, Prof. Paul Udensi while assuring of their support to Mazi Ohuabunwa’s Presidential quest described him as one of the renonwed technocrats adding that he is equal to the task of handling Nigeria’s challenges based on his anticidents.
“It has become imperative for people like Mazi Ohuabunwa to come and rescue Nigeria in times like this”, Prof Udensi said.
The solidarity visit attracted the presence of the New Nigeria Group Ohafia Chapter as well as the Aba North Chamber of Commerce and was graced by dignitaries.
