Police deploy more personnel over Plateau killings

The Police Command in Plateau said it had deployed more armed personnel to the areas of the state that were recently attacked by gunmen.

The command’s Spokesperson, ASP Terna Tyopev, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Jos on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that natives of Ncha village of Bassa Local Government Area where on Sept. 16 thrown into mourning as attackers killed over 20 persons there.

Also, six persons were killed and over 10 houses destroyed in the early hours of Sunday at Taegbe village, and 29 others were also killed and many injured while taking refuge in a primary school in Nkyien-Doghwro of the same locality

According to Tyopev, the Command had deployed three units of armed mobile Policemen to forestall any re-occurrence of the incident in the areas.

“We have intensified patrol of the affected areas and more officers have been deployed to contain any future occurrence.

“Three more units of armed mobile Policemen have been deployed to the areas to ensure protection of lives and property.

“The Commissioner of Police has also given a matching order to all heads of operations and officers in charge of divisions to ensure strict visibility policing across the state to avoid a repeat of the ugly incident in any part of the state, ” he said.

The spokesperson also said that there had been a joint aerial surveillance of the affected communities between the Police and the Nigerian Air Force.

He said no arrest had been made, but assured that investigations were ongoing to unravel the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

He appealed to the inhabitants of the affected communities and other communities in the state not to take the law into their hands, but support and cooperate with the security agencies to bring the situation under control. (NAN)
