Shun religious bigotry, Opoko tells Nigerians,as Christians celebrate Easter

 

Nigerians have be urged to shun religious bigotry, ethnic divides and any vice that can jeopardize their existence as a nation.

The Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Most Rev, Chibuzo Opoko who made this disclosure to National Ambassador, said Nigerians should come together as one, avoiding any factor that can hamper their unity.

Opoko said the period the nation finds itself currently is a very dicing one, as it calls for constant unity,prayer, togetherness to win the war against the various security challenges and the present  pandemic ravaging the world.

According to him,Easter celebration is a very important period for Christians, as it affords them the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices Christ made for them on the cross.

The cleric stated that Christ went through an excruciating death so that Christians could be free from physical, material, financial and mental death, adding that if Christ did not die, Christians would be most miserable.

Opoko maintained that Christ was a gift to mankind, offering Himself as a supreme sacrifice for us to be free from crucifixion.

He said the Easter celebration is the hub of Christian faith, and this he revealed neccesitated the appeal made to the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to relax slightly on the Lockdown order, so that Christians in the state can go to the alter of God to worship Him,as well as pray for the end of coronavirus, thanking the governor for heeding to their appeal.

While urging Christians to use the period to demonstrate love, give to the needy, called on them to emulate Christ in all their dealings and avoid cheating, lying and other form of immoral acts

The Archbishop, however, warned that the period of covid 19 is not the period of hiking the prices of goods but a time to be each others’ keeper, stressing that anyone still taking advantage of the season to inflate the prices of  goods and services, should desist forthwith, as that was not the reason Christ died.

He further wished Christians a peaceful celebration, urging them not to forget the importance of the season.
