As States and Federal Government make frantic effort to ensure that Nigerians are safe from the dreaded Corona Virus,the Management of Abia State Government House is leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to sensitise staff on the prevention of the killer Covid 19.
The Government House Management which organised a one day Health Seminar on the prevention of the spread of the deadly epidemic assured of the willingness of the management team to do everything within its powers to keep the chances of survival of the Corona virus at zero level.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary Government House Umuahia, Elder Okechukwu Aguwa called on the staff to maintain high personal hygiene and abide by already laid down medical instructions.
The Head of Department, Government House Medical Unit, Dr. Ifeyinwa Uma-Kalu, while sensitizing the staff on the new viral disease, recalled that the virus which has affected fifty-eight countries (58) of the world was introduced into Nigeria on the 28th of February by an Italian traveler.
She noted that the virus which has an incubation period of fourteen (14)days has respiratory symptoms such as: fever, cough, shortness of breath( breathing difficulty), pneumonia, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, kidney failure and even death adding that the virus can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person.
While stressing the importance of personal hygiene and the need to always report to the hospital at the instance of any illness,the Medical Doctor enjoined the Management and staff of Government House Umuahia to always ensure regular hand washing habit with alcohol-based hand-wash, maintain a distance with an infected person, minimize contact with infected objects and persons and always have a hand sanitizer wherever they go.
Although Abia state has not recorded any case of the disease,the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Azubuike Onyebuchi, in an interview with Journalists, said the Infection Prevention Control Committee has been revitalized, while an Isolation Centre has already been provided in the hospital for any eventuality.
