Abia State Government says there is no going back on its resolve to clamp down on substandard schools in the State as it is poised to ensure reforms in the education sector.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kanelechi Nwangwa who disclosed this while interacting with news men in his office,revealed that about 50 substandard schools were closed by the Ministry.
He explained that the essence of clamping down on substandard schools across the state was to ensure that quality of education is maintained.
Dr Nwangwa while noting that some schools closed down by the state government were still operating, informed that his team would embark on massive supervision of schools across the State to ensure compliance adding that the ministry will also ensure that schools allowed to operate live up to expectations.
According to him,plans are underway to bring in a taskforce that would ensure total compliance from illegal schools earmarked for closure in the State.
The Commissioner however informed that some schools earmarked for closure were now trying to meet up with the state government’s standard by relocating to their permanent sites.
He emphasized that proper education must provide pupils with affective, psychomotor and cognitive domains, pointing out that the schools closed, lack necessary atmosphere for learning and were not able meet up with other standards of operating schools.
While extolling the Ikpeazu administration for it’s strides in the education sector, Dr Nwangwa,noted that the state government has also embarked on training and retraining of teachers to enhance their capacity and productivity and would carry out more training in collaboration with Australian educators who were already partnering the State government in continuing teachers’ education.
