Abia govt to establish fire service depts in three Senatorial zones.

Abia state Government says it will establish Fire Fighting Stations in the three Senatorial zones of the State to tackle incidences of fire outbreaks in all the nooks and crannies of the State.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stated this Monday,when he visited the Umuchieze Cattle Market in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the State to commiserate with the traders over a recent fire outbreak that engulfed some sections of the market.

The Governor said he would ensure more fire fighting equipment are bought to help fight fire outbreaks in the State.

He cautioned the traders and all Abia residents to be careful how they handle inflammable materials this dry season.

While thanking God that no life was lost,the Governor assured that he would replace the buildings that was razed by the fire and commended the traders at the market for their peaceful disposition and for conducting themselves in an orderly manner.

He further announced the creation of ASEPA Zone in Umuchieze Market and assured that he would create a Sanitation Team in the market as well as appoint one of the traders to serve as team leader.

Conducting the Governor round the scene of the fire incident, the Commissioner for Trade & Investment, Dr. Cosmas Ndukwe while narrating how the information of the inferno got to him and efforts made to intervene,said that the traders lost shops to the incident and thanked God that no life was lost.

Earlier, the Administrative Secretary of the Umuchieze Cattle Market, Prince Awal Hassan, on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Anim Umaru explained that they woke up last Friday morning to see that fire has gutted some sections of the market.

He explained that all efforts to quench the fire proved abortive as they lacked fire fighting equipments.

According to Mr Hassan,more than 100 shops as well as cash were lost in the inferno.

He applauded the Governor for coming to see things for himself and appealed for assistance.
