The chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Chief Okezie Ugboaja, has urged the newly elected executive members of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE), Abia state chapter to protect workers welfare.
Chief Ugboaja who stated this in an interview with National Ambassador, said the NULGE is a union that cater for the needs of workers, therefore the newly sworn in executive of the union in Abia, should ensure they be a good liaison between the workers and the union.
According to him, the past leadership of the union under the watch of Comrade Ijoma Onyenaucheya, took the union to a greater height, as workers felt well during his tenure, urging the new leadership to improve on what is on ground by ensuring workers salaries are paid regularly, as well as make sure leave allowances and other benefits accrued to workers are given.
Meanwhile, the new state President of NULGE, Comrade Nwaigwe Ikechi Kennedy in his acceptance speech, assured the union of a robust government as he would create a synergy with the state government.
According to him, it would no longer be business as usual, maintaining that his leadership would not only project workers’ welfare but would create a forum through which challenges confronting local government workers would be addressed, in order to harness their abilities.
He added that past leaders of NULGE in Abia would be carried along in what he called ‘Leadership Provision’, so as to fortify the union in the state, calling for their support.
Kennedy, however, called on local government workers to give their best and take seriously their work, as his leadership would partner with the state government for a symbiotic relationship, where they (the workers) would give their services and the government would in turn pay their salaries.
While urging his team to represent all they were elected for, said all hands must be on deck to record a successful tenure, advising those that contested the position with him to sheath their sword and and work together with the new regime, promising to carry them along.
