Abia govt to partner ICAN on capacity training for civil servants

Abia State Government says it is committed in partnering with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to enhance capacity for Accountants in the State Civil Service.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stated this at Government House Umuahia when he received the National Leadership of ICAN,led by its President Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo.

The Governor while saluting the intervention of ICAN in terms of fiscal responsibility and economic growth, recommended civil servants in the state to cease the opportunity provided by the professional body and enhance their capacity and knowledge of accounting.

Describing ICAN as a partner in progress,the governor said that the professional body will assist the state government block leakages,expand avenues for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in addition to balancing prudence and accountability in the state workforce.

He assured that the state government will assist ICAN in building its resource center which he noted will help Abians get professional qualifications as well as rub off on the state government’s anti corruption crusade.

He commended the efforts of the ICAN president for his leadership qualities and expressed confidence that he will leave good legacies as well as take the professional body to greater heights during his tenure.

The ICAN President, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo earlier in his speech,appreciated Governor Ikpeazu for various assistance rendered to the body especially the donation of land for the building of ICAN Resource Centre in Umuahia as well as honouring her at the 49th Annual Accountants Conference held in Abuja.

He said that ICAN is committed to collaborating with the Abia State government in capacity building of Accountants in the State ,adding that the training for civil servants in the Accounts department and other related public sector accounting will enable them enhance performance in their service to the state government.
