Dozens of South Korean football players are among nearly 50 people who have been indicted in a ever-widening match-fixing scandal.
Prosecutors in the southeastern city of Changwon Thursday charged players from six teams in the professional K-League with taking money from gamblers in return for throwing 15 matches last year.
About 11 illegal gambling brokers were also indicted Thursday.
More than 60 football players, brokers and gamblers have been linked to the scandal since it broke last month. The highest-profile player involved is Choi Sung-kuk, a member of the Suwon Samsung Bluewings team, who has appeared in 26 international matches for South Korea’s national team.
Choi came forward late last month and confessed to throwing games, but denied accepting cash. VOA
