First Students Entrepreneurial Expo held in UniUyo

The University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state over the weekend had it’s maiden students entrepreneurial exhibition.

The event which was held at the mini stadium in the University’s town campus had over thirty students showcased their products such as suits, slippers, beads and accessories, perfumes, head gears, ties, zobo,snacks etc.

Declaring the event open, the wife of UniUyo Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rosaline Essien commended the leadership of the Students Union government for the initiative and the University management for providing safe academic environment for students to exploitas well as utilize their skills and talents.

She further commended students whose wares were displayed at the venue for not abandoning their entrepreneurial advancement and creativity in the course of their academic pursuit.

Dr Essien hinted the resolve of the institution to include ‘entrepreneurial studies’ as a General Course (GST) in the curriculum noting that the governor of the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in the just concluded education summit in the state had instructed all tertiary institutions in the state to include entrepreneurship as a course.

Her words, “Gov.Emmanuel in the just concluded education summit in the state instructed the inclusion of enterpreneurial courses in all the tertiary institutions in the state.

“The university through a proactive management team has put in place an environment to enhance your entrepreneurial ambition which is in the form of GST 211. We urge you to utilize the services of ‘safety for entrepreneurial development.’ As students who have been exposed to this opportunity, We expect you to become more aware of how to create wealth through craftmanship.”

Also the President of SUG, Emediong Ekanem in his remarks commended the students who have seized the opportunity of learning in the two weeks entrepreneurial training organized by his government.

He said, “University of Uyo should be seen as institution where we can equally control our financial flow. Where students will be buying from students and money would be circulating round the campus.

“This is the first time a Student’s Union Government would be creating this platform where students showcase their talents and products.We as government had brought in people buying from them with 200% profit.

“The idea is for the students entrepreneurs not only to make money and buy their books but to have something doing when they graduate from the University.”
