Abia @28: Ikpeazu begs Abians to be patient with him

As Abia state marks it’s 28th year Anniversary,Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has called on Abians to be patient with his administration as it strives to build an Abia that posterity will be proud of.

Governor Ikpeazu who stated this at the commemoration of the 28th Anniversary celebration of Abia State held at the International Conference Center,Umuahia
said the state has reasons to celebrate adding that although the process of building the state may appear slow, Abia will surely get to its desired destination.

In his words: “Despite the fact that we are not where we are supposed to be, it is clear that we are certainly not where we used to be”.

“We are not daunted by the challenge facing us currently but we are investing on building infrastructures that will stand the test of time”.

Ikpeazu who admitted that there is huge infrastructure gap especially in major cities of Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia said his administration is committed to providing all round infrastructural development pointing out that he wants to be remembered by the quality of roads constructed by his administration.

While applauding the robust relationship between the three arms of government, Ikpeazu attributed it to the peace enjoyed in the state noting that an environment of rancour and bickering cannot be solid enough to engender socioeconomic development.

The Governor who described the event as a milestone in the history of the state, saluted the efforts of Abians founding fathers and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the light handed over to him by his predecessors will remain aglow.

Chairman of the State Advisory Council, Ezeogo Dr. Anagha Ezikpe in his address explained that the Abia Chatter of Equity was formulated in 1981 with the aim of ensuring distribution of power and resources across the three senatorial zones of the state adding that the intent of the Abia charter of equity would have been defeated if power did not rotate among the three senatorial zones of the state.

The 2019 Abia Day Celebration featured the presentation of a lecture tittled; “Abia State – 28 years after by Prof Madu Iwu while presentation of awards to nine deserving sons and daughters of Abia as well as cutting of the Anniversary cake.

The event was attended by the wife of the Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, Elder statesmen and other top Government functionaries.
