Gov Ikpeazu extols Dame Nwafor as she clocks 70

The Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has extolled Dame Gladys Nne Nwafor,widow of the two time Deputy Governor of Abia State, late Dr Chima Nwafor,for carving a niche through her services to the state in various capacities and nation at large.

Dame Nwafor flankedby the Governor, Wife and the deputy governor.

Speaking during the 70th Birthday celebration and Thanksgiving service of Her Excellency, Dame Gladys Nne Nwafor and the 10th edition of the Diocesan Christian Men Fellowship (DCMF) Conference held at St. Clement’s Anglican Church Mbutu Umuojima- Ogbu Osisioma LGA,Governor Ikpeazu who described her as an elder state’s woman
said she has not only served the State as the wife of a former Deputy Governor, but has extended her humility and hospitality to the society and the State at large.

 

He also stated that Mrs. Nwafor has become a reference point of excellence in womanhood through her life and activities by recalling her many years of dedicated and selfless service to the State and country, starting from being a teacher, two time Local Government Education Secretary, Member of the Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Board Member of the Federal Institute for Agricultural Research Ibadan and Federal Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of the South East.

The Governor said the late Dr. Nwafor who lived a life of service to humanity will always be remembered by his family and the people of the State for his works on earth while alive. He also enjoined families to believe in God who makes a way even in the wilderness as He never leaves nor forsakes His own.

He wished the celebrant many more years with good health while congratulating the Men’s fellowship of the Anglican Communion on the occasion of their annual Men’s Fellowship conference .

Speaking on the topic, “That Woman You Gave Me” drawn from the book of Genesis 3:1-24, the Bishop, Diocese of Aba Ngwa North, Rt. Rev. Nathan O. Kanu, stated that success in life does not only depend on doing the right thing all the time but on how we handle our faults, failures and in abilities.

The speaker also said that the responsibility of representing God on earth lies on the man as God created him with a reason and purpose and as such, should refrain from actions which could take him away from the presence of God.

Rev. Kanu enjoined men to love, care and listen to their wives on issues which are in line with the will of God as well as provide for the needs of their families. He also called on citizens to rise up to their responsibilities, saying that they, as the heads or principals in their various places of public service, will be held responsible for the actions and inactions of their subordinates.

The event was graced by the wife of the Governor Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, the Deputy Governor and his wife, His Excellency Sen. Adolphus Wabara and other top government officials.
