The Abia State University Teaching Hospital Aba(ABSUTH) has suspended the Seven Months strike action that had paralyzed activities in the hospital.
The suspension of the strike followed a tripartite agreement reached between the Abia State Government, the Management of the Hospital and organized labour.
To this end workers are expected to return to their duty posts from today, 3rd July, 2019.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, in a press release issued by his Chief Press secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, expressed deep gratitude to the workers for calling off the strike action assuring that having personally taken the lead in the talks that led to the suspension of the strike, he will also ensure that issues raised during the talks are given the required attention through the new Management of the Hospital which was recently put in place.
Governor Ikpeazu challenged the new Management of the Hospital to rise to the challenge of ensuring that uninterrupted activities take place in the Institution henceforth.
He further tasked them to fashion out creative ways of eliminating the incidence of industrial actions in the institution by promoting the ideals of accountability and transparency in the management of their finances.
Governor Ikpeazu restated the commitment of his administration to the provision of standard Medicare to the people of the State and providing medical workers a conducive environment to operate.
While urging the workers to redouble their efforts and ensure that lost grounds are covered, the Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the major road leading to the Hospital, a commitment which he said has started bearing fruits with the key palliative work already done on the road, adding that the main reconstruction work will commence shortly.
