Civil servants in Abia state especially in the ministry of Information have been charged to be more productive and efficient in their assigned lines of duties.
The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who gave this admonition in a meeting with the staff of Ministry of Information, also stressed the need for punctuality and regularity to work.
Chief Okiyi, noted that the well being of Abians remain the primary responsibility of the present administration and reiterated of no plans by the state government to downsize the workforce as only those caught with forged certificates would be sacked.
While he promised to encourage and support staff of his Ministry to perform optimally, Okiyi made it known that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is ready and willing to give Abians the best.
He stated that the government spends up to 75 – 80 percent of its allocation to service salaries and wages, stressing the need to improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State.
The Commissioner advised them to get themselves properly informed as information managers so as to educate the people about the activities of the state.
In their separate remarks, the Director of Finance in the Ministry, Mr. Sunny Kanu, and the Chairman of the Staff Welfare Association, Elizabeth Onyali, congratulated the Commissioner on his reappointment and pledged their support to him.
They also promised to be efficient and to engage in their assigned duties.
