Governor Nyesom Wike has dissolved the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board with immediate effect.
The governor in a statement by his special assistant on electronic media,Simeon Nwakaudu, directed members of the board to hand over all property and documents of the board in their possession to the most senior officer. This came a day after his meeting with the heads of primary and secondary schools, Rivers State Senior Secondary School Board and State Universal Basic Education Board at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike had directed principals and head teachers of public schools to stop collecting levies and fees from students and pupils.
The directive was also given during the meeting with principal and head teachers at Government House in Port Harcourt. He further said that any principal or head teacher caught extorting money from parents and wards under any guise would be prosecuted.
He also said that the Rivers State Government will make available, monthly subvention for principals and head teachers to run their schools.
