FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Netherlands Eliminate Japan

Out of the eight teams that will play in the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup, seven are from Europe as the Netherlands qualified tonight after defeating Japan 2-1.

The European champions opened scoring on the 17th minute through Martens, who scored the winner on the dot of 90 minutes from the penalty spot.

Japan had earlier equalized on the 43rd minute Hagesawa.

Besides the USA, all other teams in the quarter-finals are from Europe. The quarter-final pairings will see Norway take on England while France tackle the defending champions, USA.
