Abia Governor’s wife Mrs Ikpeazu calls for a dedicated lane for cycling

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has advocated for the urban city and town planners to dedicate special lane on the roads for bicycle riding.

Mrs Ikpeazu said this in her Government House office in Umuahia, when members of Abia State Cycling Association accompanied by the members of the Federal Road Safety Corps paid her a courtesy visit in commemoration of the world bicycle day with the theme ‘cycling for health’.

The Governor’s wife who was represented by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Eze Ajuzie said that cycling is a sort of anti depressant and strong therapy for the heart.

According to him, “cycling exercise is good and helps to improve the physical fitness of the cyclist”.

He assured the cyclists that the Governor’s wife will organise a cycling competition amongst cyclists in the State.

He added that the office of the wife of the Governor takes interest in programmes that will improve the quality of health of Abians and noted that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu will holistically increase its capacity towards sports development in the State.

Earlier, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Abia, Mr. Meshack David said that they are championing the awareness of bicycling to reduce road crashes, parking spaces and safety among road users.

He urged the public to take cycling as alternative means of transportation.

In his remarks, the Chairman South East Cycling Federation, Elder Ezebuiro Nwaubani said that the association has gained a lot of support from the present administration and asked other organizations to key in.
