Super Falcons Win Women WAFU Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are the champions of the 2019 Women WAFU Cup. They defeated the host Dame Elephantes of Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties after full time had ended 1-1.

The Ivorian ladies, who have now lost two finals consecutively opened scoring on the 42nd minute through Koko Nguessan’s free-kick.

The African champions pressed on for the equalizer, but the host was very resolute until towards the end of the game. Uchenna Kanu scored her 10th goal of the competition as Nigeria restored parity.

The game went into penalties and the Super Falcons emerge champions.

The team is expected back to Nigeria on Sunday before they depart for Austria on Monday for the final phase of their preparations for FIFA Women’s World Cup kicking off next month in France.
