Abia inaugurates reform committeee

Worried by the below performance of some institutions and parastatals in the State which have negatively affected realization of her cardinal objectives, Abia State Government has inaugurated a Committee to midwife imminent reforms in key State Institutions and parastatals.

Inaugurating the Committee at Government House, Umuahia, the State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, decried reports of institutional decay caused by faulty employment processes, salary padding, general wastage and complete lack of direction in some of the institutions and parastatals, all of which have made payment of salaries and meeting other obligations difficult.

He, therefore ,urged the Committee to come up with objective report and recommendations that will assist in the faster delivery of democracy dividends to the people.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, highlighted some of the institutions the committee needs to look into including Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Abia Specialist And Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia, School Of Health, Aba, Abia State College Of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Hospitals Management Board (HMB), the Judiciary, Local Government Service, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and the Civil Service in general, with a view to correcting the anomalies in them that have affected governance negatively.

The Governor who reaffirmed his determination to consolidate on his achievements by launching into areas that will bring the State into limelight expressed confidence in the ability of the Committee members to come up with a report that will enable Government achieve its desired target and vision.

Earlier in his speech, on behalf of other members of the Committee, the Chairman, Chief (Dr) Chukwuma Agu, assured the governor that they will be dedicated in the task assigned to them by coming up with objective report and recommendations.
While pledging their loyalty to the pragmatic Government, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, he thanked the governor for finding them worthy of such an important assignment and promised that they will not let him and the state down.

Other members of the Committee include Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa, Eze Prof Maxwell Ogbulu, Lady Chinedu Brown, Mr Mac Atasie, Permanent Secretary Izima (Retd), among others.
