FG approves reconstruction of Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Road

The federal government has approved the contract for the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene federal road.

The contract is awarded to Messrs Hartland Nigeria Limited/ Raycon and Company Nigeria Limited for the sum of thirteen point two billion naira (N13,296,283,958.68)
This brings to culmination, years of interfacing with the Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing , Babatunde Raji Fashola.

To this end, the member representing Ikwuano Umuahia Federal constituency, Sam Onuigbo expressed his happiness over the gesture.

Onuigbo noted that the road, which is a major economic access point that links Abia State with Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Crossriver states, and even on to Cameroon, had completely collapsed.

According to him, it became a source of constant worry and sleepless nights.

The federal law maker said the first step he took was to move a motion on the 26th of May, 2016, calling on the Federal Government to, as a matter of national urgency, mandate the Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing to commence the process of fixing the road which had been awarded several times and later collapsed totally.

Onuigbo disclosed that he followed up the motion with a visit to the office of the Honourable Minister for Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
