A new model Classroom block built and donated by Chevron Nigeria Limited, operators of the Agbami oil field for Community Model High, Isieke Ibeku, Abia state,have been commissioned with a call on the host communities to assume full ownership and protection of projects and facilities located in their areas.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu,while commissioning the project also stressed on the protection of property against destruction and vandalization and assured that everything possible would be done to ensure that the classroom block,which has changed the landscape of the school is protected and maintained by providing adequate security and warned the community against seeing the project as government or no man’s property.
Represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, he also advised students and teachers to make optimal use of the facilities;restated the high premium his administration placed on education.
The governor,who thanked the Chevron Nigeria Ltd under Agbami joint venture for their kind gesture in uplifting standard of the education in the state thereby expanding their social responsibility programmes to areas like health, agriculture, reassured them of the administration’s support and partnership.
Contributing, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof Ikechi Mgboji,while expressing his happiness over the facilities, commended the Chevron for the projects and urged the students to make good use of the facilities and called on other well meaning Abians and Nigerian to emulate what the company did.
Earlier, the Director, Deepwater Production and Sharing Contracts, Mr Rick Kennedy and Chairman, FAMFA Oil Nigeria Ltd, Mr M. Alakija,said that the project was part of their social investment plan aimed at improving education amongst secondary school students,as well as other ongoing projects that cut across various sectors of the National economy.
Also speaking, the Principal, Isieke Community Model High School, Mrs Christie Kanu,said that the project was another demonstration of the commitment of the Agbami parties to support government’s efforts to promote teaching and learning , encouraged school enrollment and above all enhance social well being of the community and the entire Abians.
She thanked Gov Ikpeazu for sustenance and for undoubtedly demonstrating love for education at all levels by ensuring the existence of a conducive learning environment across the state.
The high point of the event was the tour of the facility by the representative of the governor, government functionaries, Chevron officials amongst others.
