Association of Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State led by Enefa Georgewill has called on governor Nyesom Wike to use the workers day celebration today to implement the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage for civil servant in the state.
” we also wish to use this workers day celebration to call on Rivers state government to commence the immediate payment of the N30,000 minimum wage, and demand that government at all level shouldn’t demoralise the economy in order to create more jobs for unemployed youths who now resort to crime and criminality and the result is the state of insecurity we are now facing in the country and in the state” he stated.
Chairperson of the Correlation Enefa Georgewill also urged Labour Union to unite so as to push for better welfare of workers in the state.
” we urge Labour Union in the state to reorganize, unite and be ready to fight for workers, as only our union makes us strong” he stated.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, the newly reelected Nigeria Labour Congress chairperson in Rivers state Beatrice Itubo says she believes governor Wike will set up a committee after his speech on workers day today, to ensure that the N30, 000 minimum wage is paid.
She also said the governor has promised workers at different occasions that he will not hesitate to pay the new minimum wage. She said her leadership is hopeful that as soon as a go ahead is given, workers in the state will receive their pay.
