The wife of Abia State Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu said that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu places premiums on the health of Abians.
This she explained are the reason the state government is taking advantage of all opportunities available to restructuring the health institutions to promote good and healthy practices among the people.
Mrs. Ikpeazu stated this recently at the commissioning of 72 Hours Family Planning Unit Make Over Primary Health Centres renovated by The Challenge Initiatives, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation in Aba North Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor’s wife who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Vivian Ude Oko Chukwu, emphasized that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is harnessing every strategy to ensure that the health services we needed as a state government are provided and commends The Challenge Initiatives for playing a complementary role to the government.
According to her, “while we have commissioned the Eziama Primary Health Care, the Osusu Umuola, Egbelu, all in Aba North LGA and another one at Osaa Okea in Obingwa LGA, all hands must be on deck to ensure that these efforts are not in vain”.
The Governor’s wife also pays a courtesy visit to the Transitional Committee Chairman of Aba North Council, Barr. Charles Esonu and his Deputy, thanking them for their role towards the re-election of Gov. Ikpeazu.
In his remarks, the Transitional Committee Chairman of Aba North Council, Barr. Charles Esonu said that the challenge initiatives being sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gate is a non profit organisation that have put their material, energy, facilities and financial resources to make the primary health care centres in our communities work at a full scale.
The beauty of all these is that the services are free of charge so far you register with the health care centre in your area and thanked Gov. Ikpeazu for attracting them.
Contributing, the Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr. John Ahukanna explains that The Challenge Initiatives are in Abia for good because they are going to turn around about 290 primary Health care centres in the State and called for support to the initiative.
However, the Executive Secretary Primary Health Care Development Agency in the State, Dr. Chinagozie Adindu, said the challenge Initiatives idea is to turn around primary health care system in the State.
Out of the 36, primary health care centres they agreed to build, 6, has been completed and equipped with facilities, this he said will go a long way to bring about the reduction in child and maternal morbidity.
