Easter: Christians tasked on a life of sacrifice, love

Christians have been challenged to live a life of sacrifice, love, integrity and honesty as they celebrate the 2019 Easter.

The Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese, Most Revd Chibuzo Opoko, who dropped this in his Easter message, said Easter is the season where Christians all over the world celebrate the passion, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He said Christ death on the cross, was a total show of love for humanity as his death paved way for our life.

The Clergy stressed that without Christ death, we would not have been saved, adding that our salvation and faith are tied to His death.

He said Christians should reflect on their old history that leads to the cross and the new history which helps them to appreciate His resurrection, adding that Christ is dead but He is alive.

Giving the implication of Easter to the contemporary Nigerian society, the Archbishop, however, disclosed that the resurrection of Christ is the victory over sin and death and Nigeria as a nation will never become what we desire it to be unless we begin to apply daily the victory which Christ gave us on the cross. That victory he said, would help us shun corruption at all levels, inept and inefficient leadership as well as reckless mismanagement of the nation’s resources.

The Archbishop said if leaders through their leadership style cannot build a Nigeria free of corruption then they make a mess of Easter, calling on leaders as well as followers to pursue the dream of recreating a new Nigeria that inspires confidence, gives hope and creates political stability as well as economic viability.
