The wife of Abia State Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has charged women appointed as Local Governments Administration Secretaries to be diligent in their duties.
The Governor’s wife gave the charge when the newly appointed Secretaries of the 17 Local Government Areas in Abia State paid her a courtesy visit at her Government House office in Umuahia.
According to her, “our aim of appointing women as LGA Admin Secretaries is to get you involved with this administration and to help the government reach out to the rural populace, this is to ensure that the administration programmes and dividends of democracy are visible in the rural areas”.
Earlier, the leader of the LGA Administration Secretaries, Lady Oluchi Ahukanna said that they came to familiarize themselves with the administration policies and to thank the Governor’s wife for making a case for women to be carried along in this administration.
According to her, “what the Governor’s wife has done is first of its kind for women to be appointed as administration secretaries of the 17 LGA’s in Abia State”.
Ahukanna also maintained that the wife of the Governor has done well in her areas of pet projects, building houses for the indigents, paying medical bills, supporting the girl child and championing a lots of skills acquisition programme for women and the youths.
However, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Cordelia Nwokoro, appealed to the Secretaries to replicate this gesture by carrying the good message of this administration to the rural populace and to maintain peace.
She said that the Governor’s wife has made effort for women to be included in this administration because of her passion for women folks to succeed.
In her remarks, one of the appointed Admin Secretary from Isiala Ngwa South, Mrs. Elizabeth Okoro, said that they will not disappoint this administration.
