The 2019 Elections have come and gone but it’s effects seem not to leave the minds of those that contested,as the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has advised those who vied under its platform but could not scale through to seek redress in the Election Petition Tribunal.
According to the SDP the just concluded elections were characterized by high level of corruption, ranging from ballot box snatching,vote buying,thuggery, manipulation of election result figures as well as security agents aiding electoral officials to execute their fraudulent act.
In the case of the Presidential and National House of Assembly elections, voting commenced late in almost all the polling units in Abia, due to the late arrival of electoral materials and officials to their polling stations.
Addressing Journalists in a press conference in Umuahia, the SDP state chairman, Hon Chidi Nwosu, said he is urging their members especially those who are aggrieved with the electoral process to file their suit in court for a redress.
Nwosu said these cankerous and perennial electoral dysfunctions in Nigeria’s electoral system would continue to play out only if there is an amendment of the electoral Act with the aim of enshrining in the law,measures that can eliminate these anomalies.
He stressed that with the amended Act, good Governance would be enthroned thereby reducing poverty to its minimum, as well as curb money politics and ensuring credible candidates emerge for elective positions.
Nwosu who lamented the anti-party activities played by some leaders of their party, thereby reducing the chances of their governorship candidate, Hon Blessing Nwagba to win the election,however, said all those involved in the act are already on suspension, apart from one Ambassador Endurance Philips who the party was compelled to expel.
The SDP chief further thanked Abians for believing in the party and for their unflinching support all through the electoral process, congratulating those that were declared winners and urged them to offer good governance inorder to ameliorate the plight and sufferings of Abians.
