The new Abia State Commissioner of Police, Etim Ene Okon has promised to build on the legacies of the out-gone CP Chris Okon, calling on officers and men of the command to give him full support so that his stay in Abia can be worthwhile
Speaking briefly after taking over from the immediate past Commissioner of Police and now the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Charge of Zone 4, Markurdi, Okon described the State as a familiar terrine having served in the State a year and seven months ago in the capacity of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
“For those who know me and those who do not know me, I am still who I am, I will never change”, he remarked.
He described AIG Ezike’s tenure as Commissioner of Police in the State as impressive and result oriented , for everywhere he is, he made his mark, adding that the shoes left for him was an oversized one and begged officers of the command for their unflinching support so he can maintain the tempo of his predecessor.
Earlier before handing over the Command to CP Okon, AIG Ezike described people of the State as highly articulate, intelligent and sensitive people and highly commercial oriented and at such they need a CP that is proactive and have the capacity to take decisions, revealing that CP Okon was the right one for the job.
He urged the new commissioner of police to focus more on the fundamental interest of the people, “In whatever thing you do, the fundamental interest of the people must be protected, their rights will not be abused, there should be no road blocks so that there will be no extortion.
Recounting his experience while he served as the State Commissioner of Police, he said,” We have been able to establish some structure against criminal activities , in this three months it has been low crime and we have been good for it”.
AIG Ezike while narrating the challenges that have bedeviled the command as shortage in manpower and poor logistics, called on the state government to give more assistance to the command, lauding them for their support so far.
The outgone CP, however called on the officers of the command to maintain a high level of professionalism so as to record a successful election in the state.
