REV. FR. Cyriacus Onunkwo buried – As Governor Okorocha assured his killers would pay the price

Rev. Father Cyriacus Onunkwo of Orlu Catholic Diocese who was kidnapped on Friday, September 1, 2017 and was found murdered by his abductors has been buried, with Governor Rochas Okorocha, Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, Commissioner of Police Mr. Chris Ezike and Director of DSS, Mr. Denga Abdullahi in attendance.

Speaking at the funeral service held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Orlu, on Monday, September 25, 2017 (today) Governor Okorocha described the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Rev. Father Onunkwo by the Culprits as the height of ungodliness and wickedness, adding that the culprits would pay for their action.

The governor commended the Security agencies in the State for working round-the-clock to ensure that the Suspects were apprehended without delay, remarking that the late Priest had paid the great sacrifice, and expressed the hope that his sacrifice would help in eradicating crime in the land.

His words “Our brother has died and his death shall never be in vain. Thank God Almighty, the Security operatives have captured the killers and they will face the wrath of the law. I want to commend the Security agencies for a job well done as the Lord said, touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm.”

He added “Since these people have touched the anointed and Prophet of God, the wrath of God shall visit them just like the way it visited Cain for killing Abel. Our brother has paid the great Sacrifice. We pray that his Sacrifice shall help us in eradicating crime in our land”.

The governor Consoled the Bishop and the Catholic Church in Orlu Diocese, and the family of the late Priest, telling them to take heart.

In his sermon at the funeral Service, Bishop Emeritus of Orlu Diocese, Bishop Gregory Ochiagha said those who kidnap or kill or involve in crimes do not know God and prays that God would touch such people and bring them to repentance.

He described the late Father Onunkwo as a Priest of high Spiritual standard who died in the hands of kidnappers and prayed that God would grant his soul eternal rest.
