The Confederation of African Football CAF has announced Egypt as the host of this year’s AFCON. Egypt beat South Africa to win the hosting rights.
Egypt and South Africa submitted their bids to host the continent’s greatest soccer fiesta after the hosting rights were stripped off Cameroon
In a press release by CAF, Egypt received 16 votes while South Africa got only one vote.
Egypt, who are the most successful team of the AFCON with seven titles hosted the tournament last in 2006 and emerged champions.
Nigeria have already qualified for the tournament.
