Why I Nominated Meregini As Deputy Speaker- Hon Okoro Reveals

The Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon Okoro Uchenna Kalu, has disclosed the reason behind his nomination of the member representing Umuahia East state constituency, Hon Okezie Augustine Meregini, for Deputy Speaker.

In an interview with journalists in Umuahia, shortly after the inauguration and swearing in of the 24 Abia Lawmakers, Hon Kalu described  Rt Hon Meregini, as a man of integrity, capacity and competence, whose humane nature and collaboration with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, could bring a peaceful Assembly.

According to him, since the 8th Assembly is comprising of Lawmakers from different political parties, what the House needs is someone that is humane, one that understands people and could work with everyone.

He said a combination of Rt Hon Meregini with the Speaker, would go a long way in creating synergy and unity in the House.

“Rt Hon Meregini, is one lawmaker that can actually bring synergy across party lines. With the conglomeration of the House, the 8th Assembly needs Leaders who can defend the unity of the House. His personality spurred me to nominate him as the Deputy Speaker”.

Reacting to the uproar in the House following the nomination of Rt Hon Okezie Augustine Meregini, the Arochukwu Lawmaker, noted that the display from the opposition party (PDP), was not unexpected, as their actions connote how a typical Assembly should be, stressing that the 8th Abia Assembly would be tough, due to its make up of members.

Meanwhile, Hon Kalu, expressed profound gratitude to his constituents for electing him to represent them, assuring that he wont disappoint the confidence reposed on him,pledging to make laws that have their interest.
