As more people clamour for a better government in the forthcoming 2019 general elections, many Nigerian politicians have shown interest in the post of the president. Among these people, Woman.ng reports five Nigerian women who have also declared their interest in the post.
Below are their profiles.
Eunice Uche Atuejide
Eunice Uche Atuejide is a 39-year old mother of five. She is a legal practitioner, businesswoman and politician. Born and raised in Lagos, Eunice hails from Enugu state. She studied Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan. She also studied French and German languages and did film making at New York Film Academy. She did some acting and Communications Management and Business Administration in Germany up to Master’s level.
Also, she did graduate diploma in Law and Masters in professional legal practice. She then came to Nigeria to do the Bachelor of Law at Law School.
She is the founder of the National Interest Party, a technology driven political party designed to conduct party elections and congresses online, which has been approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies is a Professor of Language and Communication Arts at the Rivers State University of Education.
Born in Kwara State, Professor Olufunmilayo graduated from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) with a combined B.A Honours in English and Yoruba in 1985.
She obtained a Masters degree in English Language from the University of ilorin, in 1987 and proceeded with her Doctorate Degree in Linguistics and Communications at the University of Port Harcourt in 2003.
In 1988, she founded the Agape Bible Church. Her political journey started with the Accord Party before she joined the People’s Democratic Party.
Remi Sonaiya
Remi Sonaiya is a retired professor of French Language and Applied Linguistics at Obafemi Awolowo University. She was the presidential candidate for KOWA Party and the only female aspirant in the 2015 Nigerian presidential race. Born on March 2nd, 1955, Remi obtained a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1977. She proceeded to Cornell University, USA, from where she obtained an M. A. in French Literature. In 1984, she obtained another Masters degree program, in Linguistics, in Nigeria.
She returned to Cornell University for her PhD studies in Linguistics. She graduated in 1988 and returned to continue lecturing at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Obafemi Awolowo University which she had joined in 1982 as an Assistant Lecturer. She became a professor of French Language and Applied Linguistics in 2001.
Her interest in public affairs and development issues influenced her decision to retire voluntarily from her position at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2010. She is married to Babafunso Sonaiya, a professor of Animal Science and they have two children and two grandsons.
Dr. Elishamah Ideh
Born in Lagos in 1964, Dr. Elishamah Ideh had a a degree course in Mass Communications in Maryland, USA.
On her return to Nigeria, she ventured into real estate. She built low-cost shopping complexes for the disadvantaged in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos State as well as upgrading part of the Ogba Retail Market into an ultra-modern business hub. She later ventured into the oil and gas business.
She is the founder of the Christ the Ever-Present Ministry (CTEM) and the Elishama Ideh Ministries. Both are faith-based humanitarian organizations formed to support, strengthen and rehabilitate lives – especially among vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans and the destitute.
She will be contesting under the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) party.
Dr. Adeline Iwuagwu-Emihe
Iwuagwu-Emihe is an American-trained political administrator. She is running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and recently raised a 10-point transformational and developmental agenda she will vigorously pursue if given the presidential mandate.
