48 UNIUYO graduands get first class honour

Forty eight (48), out of the Four thousand, three hundred and eight (4308) graduands of the University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State would be confered with the Institution’s first class honour degrees during the 25th convocation ceremony scheduled on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Enefiok Essien (SAN) in a media briefing at the main campus, Nwaniba Uyo, the state capital.

Prof. Essien who explained that the number is the highest since the inception of the University said the total number of 4,308 graduands consisted of 642 postgraduates, 3,492 undergraduates and 173 sub degrees.

He added that two personalities would also be confered with honourary doctorate degrees of the University.

According to him, “The university will award 48 first class graduands during the forthcoming convocation.

“During the event the university will award certificates, diplomas, first degrees, masters and doctoral degrees to graduands who have been adjudged suitable in character and learning. A total of 4,308 graduands are convoking. This is made up of 642 postgraduates, 3,492 undergraduates and 173 sun-degrees.

“In addition to this, there will be two honorary doctorate degree awardees.”

He said the University has recorded a total of 64 professorial promotions in 2019 alone adding that a total of 115 professorial promotions were recorded between 2017 and 2018.

The VC said faced by dwindling revenue, the University has devised means of boasting its revenue base adding that the Institution would soon commission the school filing station.

He also said that as part of the event marking the convocation, the school will also commission external electrification, renovation and rehabilitation of mechanical engineering workshop at the main campus.
He further said that the University senate has approved the establishment of nursing science program.

“Other degree programs such as Physiotherapy, Radiology and Dentistry will soon commence degree programs.” Essien noted.
