Abia Agriculture Commissioner Receives IDA Umuahia Delegation

The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture in Abia State, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, received a delegation from the Umuahia Branch of the Item Development Association (IDA), who paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

The visit was primarily to congratulate Dr. Agbaeze on his recent appointment and to express their support for both his leadership and the ongoing agricultural reforms under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti.

Led by the IDA Umuahia Branch Chairman, Surveyor Ralph Owo, the delegation used the occasion to draw attention to critical infrastructural needs in their communities. among their concerns was the rehabilitation of key farm and feeder roads—particularly the Amaokwe-Akanu-Okai-Akaeze road—which they described as vital for agricultural productivity and everyday mobility.

The group also appealed for the revitalization of the dormant Veterinary Clinic and the Abia Golden Chicken Farm, both located in Okoko Item. According to the delegates, these facilities, if revived, would not only enhance agricultural output but also create employment opportunities for young people across the region.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Surveyor Owo emphasized that improving rural infrastructure would significantly ease the movement of farm produce to markets, reinforcing Item’s position as a key agricultural hub in Abia State.

In his response, Dr. Agbaeze thanked the delegation for their visit and their show of solidarity. He assured them that their concerns were noted and that plans were already in motion to address several of the issues raised.

The Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of farmers and pledged continued collaboration with community leaders to achieve the goals of Governor Otti’s administration.

Dr. Agbaeze also took the opportunity to encourage the people of Item and all Abians to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He described the voter’s card as an essential tool for ensuring sustained development and good governance in the state.

The delegation included several prominent sons of Item, such as Super High Chief Kingsley Ogba Nwokoro (Ofiaukwu Item), Chief Emmanuel Igwe, and Comrade Sunny Ogele, among others.
