Historic Ground Breaking Of Abia Airport Project
In line with his avowed commitment to bequeath lasting legacies to the State, the Governor ,Dr Alex Otti in the company of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development,Mr Festus Egwarewa Keyamo,SAN will today officially perform the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the construction of the Abia State Airport located at Nsulu axis in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
This long desired Project covers a land of approximately one thousand,three hundred hectares which will be completed within the next few years, with facilities which are capable of handling both passenger and cargo flights.
The components of the airport include: Non instrument four point six zero kilometre long runway which will accommodate Code E aircraft, making provision for future upgrade to instrument of the runway. Two turn pads. One exit taxi way. Apron which will accommodate four (4) airport stands (taxi-/push back configuration) an isolation aircraft area.Sagefeguarding for a future parallel taxiway. Passenger terminal building. Fire station. Airport access road, airport internal roads and perimeter road and fence. Utility buildings (electrical sub stations, water/fire tanks and pumps).
Given the volume of economic activities in Abia State today especially in Aba, engendered by His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti’s administration since assumption of office, construction of airport in Abia will no doubt accelerate the volume of trade and commerce as well as enhance Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the State.
Against the backdrop of growing insecurity in Nigeria today, the Airport when realised will attract high profile entrepreneurs, construction of Industries, employment generation which will check crime rate in the State, as well as create prosperity for the people. In addition with the return of several notable businesses and cooperate giants that have relocated to the State, Abia business community has the higher patronage of Airport passengers from the neighbouring States.
At this juncture,there is need to commend the donor Communities of Oha Nsulu comprising, Ubaha, Umuala, Umuosu, Ikputu, Umuezeukwu, Umuode and Umuomayinta Nbawsi for their Understanding and cooperation for the Airport Project.
Also worthy of commendation are the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the Hon Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Chaka Chukwumeije, Hon Commissioner for Art and Culture and Creative Economy, Dr Matthew Ekwuribe, Special Assistant to the Governor on Lands and Housing and Coordinator of Abia Airport, Pastor Okorougo Aji for their doggedness and mediation efforts between the donor Communities.
