New Yam Festival: We promote peace not violence – Ekwebelem

The Village Chairman of Mgboko, Isiama-Afaraukwu in Umuahia North L.G.A, of Abia State, Mr. Chinomso Ekwebelem has advised Ibeku youths to use the period of new yam festival (Iri ji) to promote peace and shun acts of violence.

Interacting with newsmen during the new yam festival of his community, Mr. Ekwebelem said the festival calls for thanksgiving to God, who granted them a bountiful harvest, as it is not easy to plant and also have a bountiful harvest.

He described new yam festival in Igbo land as a great ceremony, as yam is a king crop.

The Community leader used the forum to appreciate the youths of Mgboko Isiama-Afaraukwu for celebrating the festival peacefully.
