A member of the National Assembly, Hon Ginger Onwusibe, has predicted that no fewer than 80 percent of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would throw their weight behind Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The lawmaker, who spoke to Journalists after an empowerment program he organized for his Isialangwa North/South constituents, declared that there is currently no formidable opposition against the governor in the state.
According to him, he has not seen any opposition against the Governor. “Mark what I am saying today, after the APC governorship primaries, 80 percent of those in APC will start supporting Governor Otti”, he said.
Describing himself as a “political prophet,” the federal legislator claimed that his political moves have historically influenced outcomes in the state, recalling when he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he alleged that the party suffered tremendous declined.
“When I left PDP, PDP crashed. That is the gift God gave me, and I have used it”.
He stated that some of his followers were offered positions in the PDP but they declined them on his advice, as it is better to serve in heaven than to reign in hell.
Onwusibe, however, expressed satisfaction over projects executed in his constituency, noting that he derives joy from fulfilling campaign promises.
According to him, two communities recently received transformers he had earlier pledged to provide. “I feel happy making my people happy. I promised two communities transformers and they collected them today. When you fulfil promises, you will be happy”, he added.
He further emphasized his track record of keeping promises, describing himself as a politician who stands by his words.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, he likened the political climate at the time to a “tsunami,” claiming he was the only person who survived in what he described as the “Pharaoh camp”.
On the ongoing electoral reforms, the lawmaker reiterated his support for real-time electronic transmission of election results, noting that the House of Representatives had already passed the proposal. He urged the Senate to align with the position during harmonization.
“Our position is real-time transmission. The House of Representatives has passed it. During harmonization with the Senate, the Senate does not have an option. Nothing less than transmission in real time. We can’t go back, we are moving forward. Anybody who feels he is popular should not be afraid”, he said.
Speaking on his political ambition, the federal lawmaker maintained that he is not desperate about contesting in 2027.
“I have said it before, I am not desperate. It can get to 2027 and I can decide not to contest. God has blessed me. The son of a nobody. In 1999, I went to council, since then I have been climbing. Today, I am in the National Assembly”, he reiterated.
