The draws for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have been conducted in the iconic Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco. The host, Morocco will play in Group A against Mali, Zambia and Comoros. The opening match of the competition, which will hold on December 21, 2025 will the host take on Comoros.
The most successful team of the AFCON, Egypt with seven titles will play in Group B against South Africa who were unbeaten in the qualifiers as well as Angola and Zimbabwe.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play in Group C against North African giants, Tunisia as well as Cranes of Uganda and Taifa Stars of Tanzania.
Group D comprises of 2021 champions, Senegal, Congo Democratic Republic, Benin Republic and Botswana.
2019 champions Algeria will play in Group E against Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan while Group F comprises of reigning champions, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique.
The draw was coordinated by CAF Head of Competitions, Samson Adamu and was assisted by 1998 African Footballer of the Year, Mustapha Hadji of Morocco, Sergie Aurier of Cote d’Ivoire who won the AFCON in 2015, Aliou Cisse, who won the AFCON with the Teranga Lions of Senegal in 2021 and Joseph Yobo, who was the skipper when Nigeria won her last AFCON title in South Africa in 2013.
