2024 Cropping Season Flagged Off

The 2024 cropping season has been flagged off with an assurance that Government will continue to make strategic investment in the Agricultural sector for food sufficiency and security.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti stated this while flagging off the 2024 farming season with the theme: “Boosting Food sufficiency in Abia state ” held at the Trademoore Event Center, umuahia.

The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Kenneth Kalu maintained that present administration has started well as it has recorded significant improvement in various sectors of the state’s economy including Agriculture.

He made it clear that Government places high premium on the Agricultural sub sector adding that Government will continue to support the sector through training, capacity building, provision of agricultural inputs among others.

The Governor called on all to see agriculture as lucrative and important business adding that it is Government’s desire to ensure that the state has some products it will be known for in areas of production and yielding foreign exchange.

He called on Abians and residents in the state to to go back to farming for massive food production.

In her speech, the commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Monica Ironkwe said that the mission of the ministry is to promote sustainable agro based strategies in the state in order to improve the livelihood of all citizens especially the poor farmers and enjoined all to embrace, promote,and develop agriculture for the good of all.
