2024 CHAN: Kenya, Morocco Win Opening Matches

Day two of the ongoing African Nations Championship CHAN saw co-host Kenya, who are making their debut at the CHAN defeat Congo by a lone goal in Group B’s opening match.

The match which was played at the Moi International Sports Centre saw both teams miss chances. Towards the end of the first half Austine Odhiambo scored the only goal of the match when he calmly weaved his way into the penalty area and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

Congo’s efforts to restore parity came to naught as the Harambe Stars held on for a historic win.

In the second match the Atlas Lions of Morocco took control of Group B with a 2-0 victory over Angola.

Imad Riahi opened scoring in the 29th minute when he sneaked behind the Angolan defense and struck the ball between the legs of Neblu in goal for Angola.

Nine minutes to stoppage time, Angolan defender Joaquim Balanga put the ball into his own net to seal Morocco’s victory.

Action returned to Group A in the last match of the day as Madagascar took on Mauritania at the Benjamin Nkapa National Stadium. Madagascar played with 10-men for more than 50 minutes following the sending off of Andriamirado Aro Hasina in the 39th minute. But the match ended goalless.
