2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Launched

The 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem has been launched. Speaking during the event at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, the Executive Governor Dr Alex Otti OFR said that the day affords all the opportunity to honour heroes who fought and paid supreme sacrifice for the peace of the country.

 

Dr. Otti, represented by the Secretary to Abia State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu appreciated the laudable efforts of the fallen heroes, describing the day as a time to honour sacrifices, dedication and recommit to the ideals of living in harmony.

 

 

The Governor assured the Nigerian Legion Abia State Council that the process for the construction of a befitting cenotaph has begun. He lauded the family members of both the past and present heroes adding that their welfare is paramount to Government.

In her remark, the Permanent Secretary, office of the SSG, Mrs Ogechukwu Maduka said the occasion affords all the opportunity to honour the sacrifices and bravery of our fallen heroes who dedicated their lives to the defence of the nation.

 

 

She expressed hope that the unveiling of the emblem will showcase the gratitude for the selfless contributions of the service chiefs

 

In his contribution on behalf of the seventeen Local Government area Mayors, the Ohafia Local Government Mayor, Chief David Ogba commended the fallen heroes for their courage, selflessness and patriotism in the course of their service to the country.

In his welcome address, the chairman, Nigerian Legion, Abia state, Ambrose Nnabugo commended the Governor, Dr Alex Otti for making the day a reality and used the opportunity to enumerate some of their challenges to include lack of operational vehicle, lack of a standard cenotaph among others and solicited the assistance of Government.

 

In a vote of thanks, the Senior security adviser to the Governor, Commander Macdonald Uba Rtd. thanked all for finding time to witness the event and prayed for the continuous peace of the nation.

 

 

The event featured unveiling of the Emblem and decoration of dignitaries attracted the presence of commissioners, special advisers, Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries, Mayors of the seventeen local government areas, the chairman Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, chairman of the Labour Party, members of Armed forces of Nigeria, among others.
