2023: Rep Sam Onuigbo Smiles Home, As He Clinches APC Senatorial Ticket For Abia Central

 

After a battle of who picks the All Progressive Congress (APC), ticket for the Abia Central Senatorial zone,the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, at the House of Representatives, has finally clinched the ticket, defeating his closest rival Chief Henry Ikoh.

The federal lawmaker who is aspiring to represent the Abia Central zone at the Senate, gave his best shot at the polls which was a battle of some sort.

After the election was declared inconclusive repeatedly for three times, the federal House member, finally cruised home with the senatorial ticket, as he later emerged the winner of the contest.

Recall that the Election which was done at the Chidiebere Park,Umuahia, was confronted with alot of controversies.The process was disrupted severally, following allegations hitching on irregularities on the delegate list.

Announcing the winner of the Abia Central Senatorial
Primaries, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Izuchukwu Okere, said Onuigbo polled one hundred and fifty seven (157) votes, defeating his closest opponent, Chief Henry Ikoh who polled one hundred and fifty two (152) votes.

With the victory of Sir Onuigbo,he would be facing candidates from other parties, including his Ikwuano brother, Col. Austin Akobundu,who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), flag bearer for Abia Central Senatorial District,as well as, Ahamdi Nweke of the All progressive Grand Alliance  (APGA).

In an interview with Newsmen, Chief Onuigbo thanked both the delegates and APC supporters in the zone for the confidence they reposed on him during the party’s senatorial primaries, assuring that APC would come out victorious during the 2023 general elections.

Meanwhile, some aspirants for the senate seat, including Sen Nkechi Nwogu, had earlier withdrew from the race, citing confusion and irregularities on the delegate list.
