Henry Okere, Port Harcourt.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State seems not to be having the support of his people in his quest to run as president of Nigeria in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
This is just as the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Rivers State vowed to vote against the governor at the poll next year.
Recalled that Governor Nyesom Wike in a way of matching his declaration to contest for the position of the president in the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, last Sunday, has purchased his expression of interest and nomination form.
The NLC, through it’s Chairperson in the state, Chief (Mrs.) Beatrice Itubo said workers in Rivers State will not support the ambition of Governor Wike due to his ill treatment of civil servants.
Beatrice Itubo in an interview with our reporters in Port Harcourt accused the governor of subjecting civil servants and pensioners in the state to untold hardship.
“We have seen what is happening here in Rivers State, pensioners have not been paid their gratuities since the inception of this administration.
“Workers have not been promoted since the inception of Governor Wike’s administration in 2015.
“Everywhere in the state Secretariat, even the schools and hospitals are empty, no workers, people are not employed”.
The Rivers NLC boss also called on workers in the state to get their permanent voter’s card and vote for credible candidates of their choice in the forthcoming 2023 general elections in the country.
She said, “I urge them to all come out during the election and vote candidates of their choice who will be able to take the welfare of workers serious as a first charge. Me as a person, I will not support the governor.
Charity they say begins at home Let him come back home and do the needful, pay retirees their gratuities, pay pension arrears, promote workers and employ more workers, the system is empty while the people are jobless looking for work.
“It’s not just to run from here you say you want to go to Abuja, to become the president of Nigeria. There in Abuja, will you kill all the workers?
“So, let him start the whole things here in Rivers State and arrange his house so that we can be able to give him our support, without that, he will not have our support”, she said.
