The Abia North Students’ Forum has endorsed the ADC Governorship candidate, Bishop Sunday Onuoha as their consensus candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial elections.
This is coming on the heels of a recent endorsement by the Abia North Political Projects Advocacy Group.
Speaking during a meeting with the ADC candidate at the Vision Africa Radio station,Umuahia the Students said their mandate is to ensure that the next Governor of Abia State comes from Abia North extraction in accordance with the Abia charter of equity propounded by the founding fathers of the state, which has been in practice since 1999.
The National President of the forum, represented by the Secretary Chika Agnes Orti said, “after the Primaries, it was discovered that 10 out of the 18 political parties gave their party Governorship ticket to Abia North sons or daughters” ,hence the need for a consensus candidate, since, the zone cannot go for the “Governorship election in 2023 with 10 Candidates at the same time.”
She explained that the decision for the adoption of Bishop Onuoha, was reached after a report from the screening committee setup by the forum.
Orti further explained that the screening exercise, made up of representatives from the five local governments under Abia North was based on ” chances, capability, credibility, competence, political party and individual contact network of the different candidates from Abia North”.
The Forum said that they have been at the forefront of promoting and encouraging aspirants from Abia North of different political parties to ensure they deliver them at the polling unit and pledged to do same for their consensus candidate.
In his contribution, Former President Abia North Students’ forum
Comrade, Nwankwo Smart, revealed that they have 10,000 masses in their forum with their PVC’s ready for the deliverance of their consensus candidate come 2023.
